What you will do as a Welder:
- Position parts in jigs or fixtures on the bench or floor, or clamp parts together along layout marks
- Select torch, torch tip, filler rod, and flux, according to blueprints or type and thickness of metal
- Connects regulator valves and hoses to oxygen and fuel gas cylinders and welding torch
- Turn regulator valves to activate the flow of gases, light the torch, and adjust the gas mixture and pressure, to obtain the desired flame
- Hold the torch at the proper angle to the metal and guide it along a weld joint, applying filler rod to the molten area to form a weld
- Repair broken or cracked metal objects, fill holes, and build up metal parts
- Apply flux to the workpiece instead of filler rod
- Weld along vertical or overhead weld lines
- Scarf or groove weld before applying filler metal
- Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter
- Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or 6+ months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of Manufacturing software
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations
