What a Toolmaker will do:
  • Design, fabricate, and assemble precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and other machinery components based on engineering drawings and specifications
  • Operate and set up machine shop equipment such as CNC machines, lathes, milling machines, grinders, drills, and saws
  • Inspect and measure completed tools and parts using precision measuring instruments like micrometers, calipers, and height gauges to ensure accuracy
  • Modify or repair existing tools and equipment to meet production specifications
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to improve tool designs and processes
  • Maintain an organized work area and ensure proper maintenance of equipment
  • Work with engineers to resolve design or operational issues and ensure the proper use of tools and machinery
  • Adhere to safety standards and maintain a safe working environment
  • Monitor and maintain tooling inventory and order materials when necessary
  • Ensure all tools and components are manufactured to high quality standards and meet production timelines
  • Coordinate with the supporting departments on the completion of orders
What you need to be a Toolmaker:
  • Proven experience as a Toolmaker or in a similar role within a machine shop environment
  • Proficient in operating CNC machines, lathes, milling machines, and other relevant machinery
  • Strong knowledge of machining techniques, materials, and tooling
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics
  • Excellent understanding of precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers)
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or apprenticeship preferred
  • Able to stand and bend for up to 10 hours
  • Able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
