What a Toolmaker will do:
- Design, fabricate, and assemble precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and other machinery components based on engineering drawings and specifications
- Operate and set up machine shop equipment such as CNC machines, lathes, milling machines, grinders, drills, and saws
- Inspect and measure completed tools and parts using precision measuring instruments like micrometers, calipers, and height gauges to ensure accuracy
- Modify or repair existing tools and equipment to meet production specifications
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve tool designs and processes
- Maintain an organized work area and ensure proper maintenance of equipment
- Work with engineers to resolve design or operational issues and ensure the proper use of tools and machinery
- Adhere to safety standards and maintain a safe working environment
- Monitor and maintain tooling inventory and order materials when necessary
- Ensure all tools and components are manufactured to high quality standards and meet production timelines
- Coordinate with the supporting departments on the completion of orders
- Proven experience as a Toolmaker or in a similar role within a machine shop environment
- Proficient in operating CNC machines, lathes, milling machines, and other relevant machinery
- Strong knowledge of machining techniques, materials, and tooling
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics
- Excellent understanding of precision measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers)
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or apprenticeship preferred
- Able to stand and bend for up to 10 hours
- Able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
