Job Description
We are seeking a SR Tooling Design Engineer to design, develop, and optimize tools, molds, and fixtures for our plastics manufacturing operations near Yorkville, IL. This Tooling Engineer role bridges R&D and manufacturing, supporting both new tooling design for product development and continuous improvement of production tooling. The ideal candidate is comfortable working on the production floor, collaborating to meet performance and quality expectations from prototype to full-scale production. Starting salary ranges between $80K-$90K based on experience. Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop tooling, molds, and fixtures using CAD software
- Oversee tooling modifications, repairs, and new tool development to meet production and quality standards.
- Analyze and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications to ensure precision in design.
- Troubleshoot tooling issues and implement solutions to optimize performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate with manufacturing, production, and maintenance teams to support tooling projects.
- Conduct tooling validation and testing to ensure compliance with industry standards and company requirements.
- Work with vendors and suppliers to source materials and tooling components.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance tooling longevity and performance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in tool and mold design
- Proficiency in CAD software: SolidWorks or AutoCAD
- Strong understanding of injection molding, CNC machining, OR casting processes.
- Experience with blueprint reading, and technical drawing interpretation.
- Experience with tooling cost analysis and optimization.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
- Knowledge of tooling materials for wear resistance and compatibility
