What you will do as a Tool Maker:

What you will do as a Tool Maker:
- Assemble, fit, and repair precision tools such as jigs, molds, and dies
- Utilize computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines
- Follow engineering drawings to measure and mark out the design for the tool
- Use hand tools such as files, hacksaws, and grinders
- Use machinery such as lathes, presses, milling machines, and grinders to cut and shape the tools
- Utilize 2D and 3D computer-aided design and manufacturing software (CAD/CAM)
- Check the tool’s dimensions using precision measurement instruments such as micrometers, gauges and Vernier calipers
- Monitor the tools used on the manufacturing line to ensure efficient run rates and identify necessary repairs or possible improvements
- Attend machine breakdowns to identify the root cause solve the problem and assist with maintenance
- Solid background in a variety of technical and IT processes is important
- Good hand-to-eye co-ordination
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
