Safety Specialist
Job Description
Full-time | $85K–$110K+ | Company vehicle + card
Position Overview
We’re hiring a Safety Specialist to support field operations across Minnesota and Western Wisconsin. This individual will work closely with crews performing overhead and underground utility construction to ensure safety protocols are followed, PPE is maintained and distributed, and new team members are onboarded smoothly. This is a field-first role with flexibility for office and administrative work throughout the week.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular field visits to monitor safe work practices and engage with crews (typically 3–5 team members per site).
- Lead or participate in weekly safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Support onboarding of new employees, including orientation and safety equipment distribution.
- Track, organize, and assist in distributing PPE—especially safety-critical gear like hot gloves on a rotational cycle.
- Act as a visible and supportive resource for safety-related questions and coaching.
- Assist with minor reporting, field observations, and follow-ups on incidents or near misses.
- Coordinate with foremen and project leads to stay ahead of site-specific safety needs.
- Maintain strong communication with operations and safety leadership.
- Experience in utility construction (overhead electrical or gas)
- Ability to work in both field and office settings.
- Strong communication skills with comfort speaking in group settings and holding peers accountable.
- Organized and dependable—especially when it comes to managing PPE inventory and distribution.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards; HACCP or DOT familiarity is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Proficient with basic tools like Outlook, Teams, and web-based safety forms.
What to Expect
- Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, starting early (6–7 a.m.) to align with crew schedules.
- Local travel within driving distance; home every night.
