What a Machinist will do:
- Carry through to completion with minimum supervision the machining and fitting of all kinds of metal parts, tools, and machines
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, written specifications, and schematics to properly lay out and perform work
- Set up and operate all available machines and machine tools
- Perform progressive machining operations on work involving very close tolerances or unusual requirements
- Determine operation sequences
- Use skillfully all machinists’ hand tools and determine the machinability of metals to determine proper tooling selection (geometry) and application (fields, speeds)
What you need to be a Machinist:
- In pursuit (full-time or part-time student) of (2) two-year Vocational/Accredited school certificate/degree
- Knowledge of machining practices and techniques, basic mechanical principles and shop mathematics, setups, tooling applications, operating methods, and machinability of materials
- Previous experience, trade skills, and knowledge of machine shop practice
- Working knowledge of programming fundamentals #WEjobhunt
