What a Senior Machinist will do:

What a Senior Machinist will do:
- Oversee and coordinate designated shift operational and support activities of the shop
- Provide technical guidance, expertise, and leadership to staff regarding machine tools (lathes, milling machines, boring machines, grinders, machine metallic and nonmetallic work pieces)
- Produce custom tooling and fixture design as needed for complex prototypes
- Operate standard and specialized equipment (lathes, milling machines, boring machines, grinders, machine metallic and nonmetallic work pieces) to produce prototype parts
- Consult with personnel regarding product information such as design, capacity and purpose, and types of materials to be used for fabrication
- Analyze written specifications, drawings, rough sketches, and oral instructions to plan layout and determine sequence of operations
- Study work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, drawings, and machining parameters; interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances
- Test experimental models under simulated operating conditions for such purposes as development, standardization, and feasibility of design
- Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend changes or modifications for efficiency and adaptability to setup and production
- High school diploma or GED is required
- Advanced technical education a plus
- 5+ years of experience directly related to assigned area required
- Ability to operate standard and specialized equipment to produce prototype parts
- Ability to perform standard shop computations
- Skill in production of parts with extremely close tolerances
- Employee development and performance management skills
- Ability to perform experimental procedures
- Ability to foster a cooperative work environment
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
