What you will do as a Finisher:

What you will do as a Finisher:
- Examine the surface of the workpiece for defects
- Select the grade of abrasive belt, wheel, or disk according to specifications, knowledge of abrasives, and condition of metal, and attach it to the grinder
- Start the grinder and move it over the surface of the piece to remove scratches, laminated metal, excess weld material, and burs
- Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine the dimensions and tolerances of the finished workpiece
- Establish requirements to determine the optimal sequence of operations
- Polish ground areas with finer abrasive to produce a smooth, unmarred surface
- Replace worn abrasive disks, wheels, and belts
- Highschool diploma or GED; or 1+ months of related experience and/training
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions
